Advantages: A gorey horror film, thats funny

Disadvantages: You'll never eat custard again

This film is Peter Jackson's masterpiece. Peter Jackson is a director from New Zealand, and has established himself as one of the best horror/comedy filmmakers ever. He has produced films like Bad Taste, The Frighteners, Brain Dead and Heavenly Creatures.

If you have seen his films, you will know he is slightly abnormal. Come on how on earth can he think these films up, they are the workings of a lunatic. I don’t mean this in a horrible way; I absolutely love his films.

I'm not sure, how he became this way, he was an only child, maybe this had something to do with it. He had his first taste of movie making at the tender age of eight, apparently his parents bought a camcorder, as a family present. Soon Peter was shooting his own movies; he'd enlist in his friend's help to act the parts out. That’s how Bad Taste came about, all the actors were friends, and they shoot the film in the spare time on weekends.

Four years later Bad Taste was released, and it was a hit all over the world, and thus Peter Jackson became famous overnight.
We have now established that Peter is mad, but just how mad is the film.

The Plot.
---------

The film starts off normal enough, Lionel (Timothy Balma), is a young man who still lives with his domineering mother. One day, whilst in the local grocers shop, he meets a young lady, called Paquita (Diana Penalver). Paquita isn't immediately drawn to Lionel, but when her grandmother does the tarot cards, she knows her and Lionel are destined to be together.

Paquita practically throws herself at Lionel, however he is a bit nervous, as he is frightened of his mother. Eventually Lionel plucks up the courage to take Paquita to the zoo. Unknown to them both, Lionel's mum, is watching their every move from a bush. Disaster strikes when mum, backs into the Sumatra Rat Monkeys cage.

At the beginning of the film, we learn that the Rat Monkey is a
freak of nature that came about when the rats, fled from slavery ships, and raped the monkeys living in Sumatra.
Anyway mum is bitten by the monkey cross rat, and that’s when the madness starts. Mum's bite becomes infected, and she becomes a Zombie. Instead of alerting the authorities, Lionel decides to control the situation himself, which is a bad idea. She infects her nurse, kills Paquita's dog, and even infects the local vicar.

Poor old Lionel has to resort to using horse tranquilliser to knock them out, and he then locks them in the basement.
Worse it yet to come, the madness reaches a crescendo when the Zombies break out. That’s as far as I go, but take my word for it, from this point on the film gets very bloody, and you will find yourself rolling on your back with laughter.

Memorable Moments.
-------------------

There are so many fantastic moments; here are just a few of mine. The most amusing scene is when the Zombie nurse and vicar, get friendly, they're totally hilarious, imagine the scene two Zombies at it like rabbits. Due to there continuous riding, the nurse gives birth to a Zombie baby. You have got to see the baby, it's totally gross, its even got a red baby grow on, and it has this really annoying little laugh.

Another great scene is when the vicar, catches a few Zombies in his cemetery, and processed to kickbox them all. Another great scene is lunch at Lionel's house, this is as his mum is on the turn, his dinner guests get to taste mum's pus.

Funny Lines.
------------

Once again, there are so many funny lines my personal favourites are these.

Vicar when he confronts Zombies "This is the devil's work, time for some divine intervention. I kick ass for the lord."
Paquita to Lionel "Your mother ate my dog!"
Uncle Les upon discovering the bodies. "That's quite a selection of stiffs you have down t
here."
Uncle Les addressing Zombie baby "God damm little Rugrat. Where are ya ya little crawler."
Veterinary owners response to Lionel, when he asks to purchase horse sedative. "What do you want? You're not from the immigration. I told you I lost my bloody papers. My family left Latvia during the occupation. We were hunted like dogs."

Who made this film happen?
--------------------------

This film was written and directed by Peter Jackson, music is provided by Peter Dasent, and it was produced by Jim Booth.

Useless Information.
--------------------

This film had a $3million budget, which allowed Peter to experiment with great special effects, such as the lawn mower that pumped out about 300 litres of blood.
The baby in the park scene was only filmed because they was a bit of money left.

All the blood and gore was created using human hair, polyfoam, latex, pork fat, and hundreds of gallons of maple syrup.
The UK version is completely original, apparently critics were amazed that this film got through uncut.

The US version is nowhere near as complete as the UK version, about seven of the best scenes have been cut, and the lawnmower scene has sixteen seconds cut from it.

Conclusion.
-----------

This film has gore galore, but it shown in such a funny way that you will find it completely hilarious. Remember this film should not be taken serious, if you do take it seriously then you have lost the plot. Having said that after watching Brain Dead, you will never feel the same way about custard again. Watch and you will know what I mean.
This is a must for your collection, and I can assure you, you will find yourself watching it over and over.

I salute you Peter Jackson!

great op, the gore is so over the top and relentless that you can't help but laugh, the bit where the zombie punches thru the back of the girls head then runs around with her body hanging from his arm...
Peter Jackson is a very sick man.

Top Film, great op. A useless bit of trivia you left out though - the now famous lawnmower scene STILL holds the record for the most fake blood ever used in a movie!!
