Advantages: kids love it, funny in places

Disadvantages: mainly for kids but worth a watch

Well I ended up watching this with my daughter after she had nagged me to watch it, I thought it would be a kid's only film, so eventually I gave in and sat down and watched it. The film was released in 2007 and is based on the cartoon characters Bratz.

The storyline
------------------

The four best friends: Jade, Cloe, Sasha and Yasmin, are about to start High School. Although nervous, they feel excited and confident that they will excel. Head girl Meredith Baxter Dimly wants everyone to belong to a group and goes about organizing people. She doesn't like the independent spirit of the four girls, and plots to destroy their friendship. Jade does well in science club and designs great outfits, Cloe is an ace soccer player, and Sasha is soon recruited as a cheerleader. Yasmin's special talent is to sing; however she has terrible stage fright. She meets Dylan, who is deaf. She makes a crass remark of the group of four; she makes the worst start to her High School career. The friends begin to drift apart, as they are compelled to stay within their interest groups. Will they ever get back on track with their friendship, or will their differences of what they want in life destroy their friendship. There is a moral to the storyline, see if you can figure it out.

The acting
-----------------

The acting is really not what I am used to, I usually watch films with at least one actor I have heard of. I had never heard of any of these, but they did surprise me, as they did play each part well. Also some of them had to act younger than what they really are as they were aged between 15-21, and they had to act like schoolgirls. Not a very easy job. I did find faults in some parts of the film, where they did sound very fake, but overall they did do a good job playing each of their roles.

The soundtrack
-----------------------

The soundtrack has songs from the likes of Black Eyed Peas and Ashlee Simpson; the songs were good, but nothing spectacular. There are 21 songs available on the soundtrack, 22 if you include the Stephanie Macintosh song called Mistake, but that is only available in Australia. Also one disappointment was that Avril's song Girlfriend, is in all the ads for the film, but does not actually appear in the film, and I love that song loll. Overall it was good.

My opinion
----------------

I was pleasantly surprised when I watched this; in all honesty I thought it would be rubbish. I was wrong, it had a good storyline, which for some reason Meredith reminded me so much of her out of High School Musical, whether they took the idea from that film for Meredith's character I don't know but they seemed so alike. The film was quite funny in some places, and my daughter loved it, and she was laughing along to all the funny parts. To me that is what made me enjoy also watching the film, the fact that she liked it. It is not something I would watch again, but I am glad I did watch it, as I don't like to say a film is rubbish without watching it first. It certainly changed my mind. I would recommend buying this even if it's just for the kids, and you can have a sneaky view of it. I enjoyed it myself so it definitely is not just for kids.
