Background:
For those who live on another world and have never seen the epic Braveheart then you are certainly missing out.

The story is based in 13th century Scotland, when it is still ruled by England, The story begins by showing how ruthless the English king rules his new land, with a show of peace, he murders all the nobles of Scotland who were invited to the peace talks. The king also introduces a law that allows the English lords who have control of Scottish lands, the right to consumate any marriage on the first night of marriage, in the hope that the king can breed the Scots out.

The story focuses on William Wallace(Mel Gibson), who returns to his home village after spending his childhood with his uncle after the death of his father and brother.

Wallace returns to grow crops and raise a family, this is quickly changed when his bride, who he married in secret to prevent the lord having his way, is executed as an example not to uprise against the English.
From this point on Wallace raises an army, and intends to destroy all thing English, and reclaim Scotland for its people.

The biggest difficulty he faces is persuading ther Scottish nobles that they should also help, and risk losing their titles and land's.

I am suprised that the movie only got a 15 rating as there are some pretty gruesome fight scenes contained in this movie, some people who are more squemish may want to look away at some points. The disc as a whole is superbly put together as the sound and picture quality is first rate. The layer changes withi
n the disc are un-noticable making it an enjoyable movie to watch.

The effects, acting and directorship of this film is excellent, and I have to say this has got to be one of Mel Gibsons finest movies, even though his Scottish accent is not the greatest you'll ever hear.

All in all this is a fantastic movie and is a must for all DVD collectors as I have no doubts that iin the future this movie will be regarded as one of the all time greats.

A fantastic film, but the commentary track was a bit disappointing - you get the feeling Mel Gibson would rather watch his film than tell you about it!
