Advantages: Some good actors

Disadvantages: The CHILDS PLAY movies have a bad reputation

In this country, BRIDE OF CHUCKY was never going to have an easy ride. In reality it is CHILDS PLAY 4, but the 'CHILDS PLAY' title got a severely bad press a number of years ago after it was caught up in the case of the boys who murdered toddler James Bulger, although I believe that it has since been proven that the boys in question had even seen the film at the time.

And so, some years later, when another sequel came along, the 'CHILDS PLAY' reference was dropped, and the Chucky character - the evil doll - was namechecked instead.

The 'bride' of the title is another doll, this time inhabited by the spirit of Tiffany, who was the white trash girlfriend of the serial killer Charlie Lee Ray, whose spirit inhabits Chucky.

There are a number of well-known actors and actresses involved in BRIDE OF CHUCKY, not least Brad Dourif, who provides the voice for Chucky. He sounds a little like Jack Nicholson, and this is no bad thing. Jennifer Tilly is Tiffany (and the voice of the doll who she later inhabits) and she looks lovely, as does Katherine Hiegl, who would later end up in the excellent sci-fi TV series ROSWELL (known over here as ROSWELL HIGH). John Ritter also appears.

It's also fun to see the references to other horror movie franchises, including HALLOWEEN, FRIDAY THE 13TH, TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE, and NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET. I won't ruin the fun by telling you what the references are though!

All in all, a fun watch if you are prepared to put your brain in neutral!!
