Introduction
=========

I have read both these books and when I heard they were making the first Bridget Jones’s Diary I knew it would be a film that I would enjoy. Once I had seen the first film I heard about the second one being made and I just could not wait to see how that one would turn out.

The Plot
========

Bridget is in her early 30’s and single. Bridget is so sick of her life that she decides the only way to turn it around is to keep a diary; she comes to this decision after attending her Mother’s annual Turkey Curry Buffet.

At the Buffet Bridget is introduced to Mark Darcy, a divorced human rights barrister who just happens to be wearing the most appalling jumper and quickly dismisses Bridget as a potential love interest, which poor Bridget over hears.

Bridget intends to give up smoking, lose weight and find a nice sensible boyfriend but instead she starts using the emailing facility at work to start flirting with her boss, Daniel Cleaver.

Daniel is very good looking and was best friends with Mark Darcy at Cambridge University until a certain incident that caused this friendship to break down.

Will Bridget get the man of her dreams, will she give up smoking and lose weight. Watch the film to find out.

Characters
========

Bridget Jones – Renee Zellweger
Mark Darcy – Colin Firth
Daniel Cleaver – Hugh Grant

The casting is superb I do not think they could have found anybody better the play the characters created by Helen Fielding. The performance is excellent by all the cast.

What I did enjoy was the irony that Colin Firth is yet again to play a Darcy (he played Mr Darcy in Pride & Prejudice BBC Version). Colin Firth is a very British actor and delivers and outstanding performance as the aloof Mark Darcy.

Renee Zellweger put weight on to perform in this role and her British accent is very good as well, if I did not know any better she could be British.

I am not a fan of Hugh Grant as I think he tends to get by on looks rather than acting talents and because of that he is perfect in this role as the naughty Daniel Cleaver.

Extras
=====

Directors Commentary
Behind the Scenes Featurette – talks with cast, crew and Helen Fielding. It is quite interesting to know how far Renee went to become Bridget even moving to England.
Shelby Lynne “Killin Time” Music Video
Gabrielle “Out of Reach” Music Video
Original Bridget Jones’s Diary Columns Stills – columns that appear in the The Independent
Deleted Scenes – always nice to see the bits that were cut of the original film. I particularly liked the How to attract a man scene I wished they had left it in. This is Bridget ignoring Daniel and he is desperate to talk to her.

Overview
=======

If you are going to make a book into a movie then make sure you do it well and this film has been well made. The film runs for 1 hour and 33 minutes but it feels a lot shorter as the producers have moved it along without stealing anything from the storyline.

There is a part in the book where Colin Firth is mentioned in Pride and Prejudice because Bridget and her friends enjoy him getting his shirt wet in the lake but I would imagine that it would be too difficult for the producers to include this.

My favourite part of this film has to be the fight scene between Daniel and Mark. When they paused their fight to sing “Happy Birthday” is hilarious and I cry with laughter every time.

I love this film and can watch it over and over and never get bored. The soundtrack is great and there is such energy to the film that it will have it glued to your seats.

Thanks for reading.
