Advantages: Funny, sweet, perfect rom-com

Disadvantages: Slightly formulaic and ultimately predictable

Bridget Jones is a 30-something woman, living in London and working for a publisher. A self-confessed 'singleton', the film follows her as she attempts to find true love.

Based on a novel by Helen Fielding, 'Bridget Jones's Diary' is a film that will probably mainly appeal to women, as it will strike a chord with most of them! Bridget falls in love with her boss, the cad that is Daniel Cleaver, played by Hugh Grant, while coming up against Mark Darcy at various points throughout the film. The ending will probably surprise nobody, even those who haven't read the book, as it follows most of the rules of the standard romantic comedy. But, as far as I am concerned, the British humour rescues it from being a run of the mill rom com. A laugh out loud moment is the 'fight' between Daniel and Mark. Whilst most fight sequences found in films are meticulously choreographed and highly unrealistic, 'Bridget Jones's Diary' shows us what a fight between two middle aged, slightly out of shape men would actually be like. Embarrassing, and highly funny.

This is a must for anyone who enjoys a laugh and a cry, and anyone who likes Hugh Grant, Renee Zellweger or Colin Firth.

Summary: Perfect for fans of the romantic-comedy genre
