Advantages: Light.Renee Zelweigers decent performance
Disadvantages: Story is weak. Not many funny scenes
I had heard great things about this film and started watching it with huge expectations. And there was my mistake!I have always felt that I don't get british films;i hated snatch which almost everyone liked!
The film is about Bridget Jones who is a hopeless romantic and an alchoholic, who ends up spending lonely nights year after year. She is hopelessly in love with her charming boss(Hugh Grant) who doesn't give her much thought. The starting is funny, with her mom trying to set her up with a recently divorced Mr.Darcy(Colin Firth)
Hugh Grant gradually starts to take notice of her and finally asks her for dinner. One thing leads to another and you know how things end up by the end of the night. He accompanies her to her house but urgently needs to come back to town for some emergency work at his office. When Bridget returns to town, she finds out it wasn't actually work which brought him back.
Following a certain sequence of events,Bridget ends up with the divorced guy,but soon even that goes wrong.I won't divulge the details but it kind of gets predictable at the end. This is a kind of film where you actually need to see the film to understand the comedy in it;it is more situational and real than other commercial comedy films.
The story is a bit of a let down, this is like a chick flick(where the chick is a bit older) with some situational comedy put in it.One can easily relate to her character, which is certainly a plus. The performances are okay, nothing to write home about.I guess this is the only film where Hugh Grant's charm didn't get to me.I was expecting so much from this film and i was quite disappointed with it!
You can give it a go,but don't keep your expectations too high
Rating:2.5/5

- 30/10/09 best bit is definitely the two posh men awfully apologetic fight scene! |
