Disadvantages: The snow scenes

So Bridget Jones Diary is now out on Video released on October 15th. I had been waiting for it having not seen it at the Cinema and I had heard such good reactions to it. I had to watch it so we got it out of the video rental shop yesterday and watched it last night. We were in luck as we took the last copy from the shelf at the shop

Ideally I would have settled down with a glass of wine and my man but I just had to do with the man!

The children were sent to bed, the scene was set for an evening’s entertainment. I always love to see Hugh Grant in films, I love his fumbling englishness. Colin Firth who had played Darcy in Pride and Prejudice is also a heartthrob actor. I was ready to be seduced and entertained. I was not disappointed.

The film starts when unattached thirty something Bridget Jones played by Renee Zellweger comes home to her parent for the annual New Year party. Her mother with the dress sense of the 1970’s insists that Bridget changes into the most hideous of outfits and Bridget makes a big mistake and does. At this party Bridget meets divorcee Mark Darcy played by Colin Firth, she used to play naked in his garden when she was 4. Mark Darcy has also made a social gaff by wearing the jumper he got given with an enormous reindeer on it. They hit it off badly like in all good romances.

Back in London at work Bridget has her boss, Daniel Cleaver played by Hugh Grant, making eyes at her. She consults her friend and then goes all out to get him. Mark Darcy spends a lot of time looking at Bridget across a crowded room but he is a bit slow at coming forward. It can not be bad having two gorgeous men after you!

Bridget Jones is full of New Year resolutions, which she will never keep. I will stop smoking, lose weight, stop drinking as much Vodka and most important find a suitable boyfriend. With two to choose from which one would she end up with?

Bridget has a close circle of fr
iends Shazza (Smack the Pony's Sally Phillips), who has a problem with her vocabulary, Jude (Shirley Henderson), an woman with her own man problems and Tom (James Callis), a gay pop star who is a one hit wonder. These friends are ready with advice about what she should do about the men in her life.

Bridgets Parents played by Gemma Jones and Jim Broadbent go through a rocky patch in their marriage, all of which makes for great comedy.

The film follows her year as she makes incredible gaffs at work and play. It is a very funny film well produced and acted, but definitely not suitable for under 15’s as it is quite risqué. Directed by Sharon Maguire. I do not think I will buy this film but if you are looking for a film to watch this weekend I couldn't recommend a better film, it was well worth hiring out for a couple of nights.

I'm afraid all the hype put me off, perhaps I'll watch it now.
