Bruno is Sasha Baron Cohen's latest creation, a 19 year old gay super model from Austria. I watched this last night and so here is my film only review.
The story, filmed like Borat in a documentary style, starts with Bruno at the height of his fame in Europe, model, fashionista and presenter of televisions, Funky time. Bruno seems to have it all, fame, money and the love of his life with whom he enjoys a very adventerous sex life.
That is until it all goes wrong afer a misjudged outfit choice on Bruno's part involving a velcro suit. Bruno loses his job on funky time and becomes a nobody.
Bruno decides the only way to become famous is to conquer the States and heads to L..A with his assistant Lutz. After trying acting, making his own pilot T.V show, a sex tape and attempting to bring peace to the middle east, as well as a major falling out with Lutz, it hits Bruno that all successful men in Hollywood are straight.
So with this in mind Bruno seeks help in becoming a straight man and invovling himself in straight persuits martial arts, hunting and swingers parties.
Bruno - Sasha Baron Cohen (Borat)
Lutz - Gustaf Hammarsten
There are also apperances from Bono, sting, Elton John, Chris Martin and Paula Abdul.
Director: Larry Charles (Borat)
I quite enjoyed Borat and so was quite looking forward to watching this but to be honest I found it quite hard work. While Borat is annoying he is still quite likeable but Bruno is over the top and self -obsessed.
The acting is outstanding but the stoyline isn't that great.
A lot of the moments in the film are cringe worthy, outrageous and rude. I don't actually mind all that but I sat wondering 'how the hell does Sasha Baron Cohen get away with it' and 'how the hell does he keep a straight face'.
As a warning there is a lot of sex in the film and a lot of male and female nudity and a lot of people may not enjoy the film for those reasons (it's not one to watch with your gran).
To be honest the film was funny but not as funny as Borat and I think Sasha Baron Cohen should now find something new, this genre worked best on the small screen when he was doing the Ali G, Borat and the 11 o'clock show but it gets a bit samey after watching over half an hour of it.
It's quite funny but if you don't get round to watching it you won't be missing much.
Running Time: 81 mins
Also on ciao under same user name.
Summary: Not a must see comedy
