Advantages: The live music performances are amazing

Disadvantages: Perhaps a little boring for people who aren't fans

The Buena Vista Social Club album was the biggest coup in world music ever. Ry Cooder saught out aging stars of Cuban music that had faded as time passed. This DVD shows us his journey through the romantic streets of Cuba as he seeks out and signs up the performers.

We see him interviewing the stars, which is very nice to see as these people love their music and are delighted to talk about it. They live in very simple surroundings that will now have changed to mansions. Seeing the stars wandering around New York for the first time is particuarly nice, they are like big kids exploring a new city.

There are also clips of the musicians jamming (playing instruments in an informal setting) which is great as we see just how talented they are up close. The finale to the DVD is a live concert show, it is an excellent end and prood that catching the band live must be an amazing experience. They interact together well, and the music is impeccable. What makes this so watchable is that it is obvious that everyone is there for the love of this great music.

Summary: An amazing collection of musicians, the people behind the music.
