Vincent Gallo's 1998 creation, Buffalo 66, is something of a masterpiece. It tells the story of troubled Billy Brown, who has just finished serving a prison sentence and we watch his displaced and folorn self attempting to straighten the record. For we learn through a flashback sequence that Billy was innocent of the crime he served time for, and was forced into this to pay off a gambling debt. Billy wishes to impress his parents, or at least avoid their shame, and it transpires he has hidden the fact of his 5 year jail sentence from them, fabricating a wife and career. To substantiate this he abducts a young woman from her tap-dance class to play the part ... Read the complete review

Buffalo 99 is pretty much Vincent Gallo's baby, having written and directed the film as well as playing the lead role. Hell, he even did the music. Previously appearing in films such as Truth or Consequences, N.M and Palookaville, Buffalo 66 was Gallo’s directorial debut. Variously regarded as a genius and an overindulgent egotist depending on your view of Gallo, I would have to favour the former because this is one of my favourite films. Plot Buffalo 66 opens with Billy Brown (Gallo) being released from prison, to inhospitable snow-lined streets. Within minutes we see him trying to get back into prison because he needs to use the bathroom. ... Read the complete review

Actor/writer/director Vincent Gallo has pretty much managed to insult and offend virtually every major Hollywood player since making his screen debut in Abel Ferara's gangster melodrama The Funeral, so it's something of an achievement that he even managed to get this quirkily romantic indie flick made. Perhaps even more of a feather in his cap is to have persuaded class acts like Ben Gazzara and Anjelica Huston to play the utterly dysfunctional parents of his protagonist, Billy Brown. Having just been release from a five year stint in prison, our 'hero' kidnaps a young tap danccer (Christina Ricci) and steals her car. Upon arrival back ... Read the complete review

Buffalo 66 I have known exists for a long time and have only just watched. The reason for this is that for every review I've read that recmmends it there is another one that loathes and complains of the over indulgent nonsense that is Vincent Gallo. I have to say that I fell a little between this rock and a hard place as I found the first 15-20 mins of watching what was quite a difficult character in Gallos Billy Brown became more and more palatable as his back story was cleverly interwoven into the plot over dinner with mum and dad. Add into this Christina Riccis likeable and interesting character Layla who slowly comes out of her shell after Billy kidnaps ... Read the complete review

This films is nothing but an egotistical pile of pants. Music by Vincent Gallo, Written by Vincent Gallo, Directed by Vincent Gallo, and starring , yes you guessed it - Vincent Gallo. Is there nothing this man can't do?? Stylish gun shot sequences , jibbering monologues to the camera, dreeeemy music for christian ricca to tapdance somewhat awkwardly to. And do you think that you leave the cinema thinking about the film, what is was about , how clever is was or do you think that you leave with Vincent Gallo in every shape and irritating form printed in your brain. My point is , is that Buffola 66 is Vincent Gallos own testament to his supposed brilliance and not ... Read the complete review
