Advantages: Actors, Warren Beatty is rapping
Disadvantages: None really
When people are making movies with political setting or background they are usually dramas or comedies. Sometimes even thrillers, but rarely are they a mixture of genres. Bulwourth is one of those rare combinations.
In the movie we are accompanying Sen. Jay Billington Bulworth (Warren Beatty). He is a man who doesn't see any bright future in his life anymore. So he gets an insurance policy and he also hires a hit man to kill him. Because he has just a few days of life in front of him, he decides to take it loose. He joins some geto girls. Going to clubs with them, learning about the situations in the "ugly" part of town. He learns how to rap and he realizes that people who supported him up till now aren't very good. The new Sen. Jay Billington Bulworth instantly is adored by masses. Getting him reelected. In all this time he also manage to get in love wit a sexy black young women Nina (played by Halle Berry) and finds a new meaning in life.
Story is excellent and interesting. Oscar nomination was well deserved.
Warren Beatty and Halle Berry are excellent in there roles. And all of the other actors were very convincing in there roles. So I must say the cast has done an excellent job. Switching from comedy to drama and constantly dragging some thread of mystery with you is a hard job to pull, but they manage to do it. Beatty's raping is something you gota see.
Directing and editing is good also. And the soundtrack is totally suitable.
Movie, that makes politics funny, but also shows how people in the background control everything.
Summary: Do you really have to put a hit on yourself to find out about the problems of people.
