‘Cannibal Ferox’ was released in 1981 and is without doubt one of the most notorious pieces of film ever made and in general leaves the people who have seen it divided in their opinion of it. On the one hand it can be observed as an hideous exploitive film or on the other as a true gory classic. The story is centred around the character of Gloria who along with her brother and friend Pat enter the Amazon jungle to prove her theory that cannibalism is nothing more than a myth. After getting their jeep stranded they proceed further into the jungle on foot eventually meeting two men who are being pursued by local villagers. They explain to Gloria and ... Cannibal Ferox is one of the most violent and sick movies ever made, there is no doubt about that, and is not for people that are of the weak of heart or get offended easily. The new DVD release is by Grindhouse and is totally uncut adding a lot of extra gore and bloodf to the previous cut released in America called Make Them Die Slowly. A lot of Cannibal movies were made in Italy in the late 70's and this fits right in, the film starts in New York City but quickly moves into the Amazon Jungle. Its here we meet Gloria (Lorraine De Selle), her brother Rudy (Danilo Mattei), their friend Pat (Zora Kerova). Gloria is working on her doctorate degree in anthropology and ... Yet another cannibal-subgenre film from director Umberto Lenzi, this infamous piece is a gratuitously directed showcase of gore, taking massive delight in it’s particularly vicious brand of torture and killing to produce a horror experience which will live on in the memory of even the most hardened horror fan — and since this was one of the foremost ‘video nasties’ of the early 1980’s, it is not difficult to see in retrospect why such cheap and generally shoddy straight-to-video productions earned their reputation. Starting with a scene in New York in which a man enters an apartment to be killed by two hoodlums demanding to know ... Read the complete review

Rating:
Another disturbing film from Umberto Lenzi, and possibly the most gory of all the cannibal films that were produced in the 70's and 80's. It also tries to have a proper storyline, rather than being just a gory effects-driven nonsense like some of the others. In this respect, it's not quite as good as Cannibal Holocaust (in my opinion), but it's definitely more bloody and involves similar animal and human torture by canibals. The effects are a little less than convincing on occasions, especially the 'castration', but the breast hooks look realistically way painful. The film is a little slow between the violent scenes, but is worth watching if ... Read the complete review

Gloria is a young anthropology student who believes that cannibalism is a myth. She takes a trip to Amazon along with her brother and a friend and her theory proves to be wrong. Contains lots of brutal gory scenes and real animal butchery footage-the scene with the turtle is like the one in "Cannibal Holocaust"(not so graphic though). The scene with the hooks and the tits is one of my all-time favorites! Features great gore FX and a nice, funny score. ... Read the complete review
