Jamie Farr plays a Middle-Eastern Sheikh who speeds about in a Roll Royce and there's a couple of 80's spandex wearing chicks driving the car of the decade - the Lamborghini Countach. Even weirder is Roger Moore, here playing a man who thinks he is the actor Roger Moore who enters the race as James Bond in an Aston Martin. The Cannonball Run is a classic 80's movie and was a film I watched endlessly as a child along with Smokey and the Bandit. So what is it about? Well not much really- but it manages to stretch it's cross country race over a time of 90 minutes quite well. Burt Reynolds leads the film playing JJ McClure, a has-been race driver who along with rotund sidekick Victor Prinzim (Dom DeLuise) decide to enter the cross country race. But how are they going to get to the finish without getting caught? Well, they decide upon entering as an ambulance and manage to pick up the beautiful (now dead) Farah Fawcett. Believe it or not, there was a time when Burt Reynolds made good movies. Towards the end of the 70s and into the early 80s, Reynolds made quite a few movies that featured the recurring themes of girls and cars, accompanied by speed and pursuing policemen. Perhaps the most famous of these was "Smokey and the Bandit", but I prefer 1981's "Cannonball Run" simply because it's a lot more fun.
