Introduction I had vaguely heard of Truman Capote, but didn't really know why he was well-known - I thought perhaps he was a politician or advocate of human rights or something like that. Phillip Seymour Hoffman is one of those actors that just looks seedy, mostly playing sex offenders and lowlifes in a mixed bag of artistic and geeky movies, reinforcing that image somewhat. If you could define what a stereotypical pedophile would look like on screen then he would be your man, that pasty mix of mistrust and ‘kidult’ menace, which is why he has played that part in three movies so far.
