Captain Corelli's Mandolin: As good as the book? (Captain Corelli's Mandolin (DVD))
Member Name: amber_eyes
Advantages: breath-taking scenery, Great acting Disadvantages: Unanswered holes in the plot-line
I went to see this film with my Mum, not something most teenagers would admit to, but it was a definate chick flick and I enjoyed it thoroughly as a girlie's night out. We both laughed, we both cried, and we both thought it was a brilliant movie, with one difference. My Mum had read the book and I hadn't. She explained to me afterwards that the film simply hadn't gone into as much detail as the book, that it had only skimmed the surface of the true depth of feelings and history that the book reveal. I felt saddened by this, I really thought the film was excellent to watch, but by all accounts the book exceeds it. I'm now reading the book, and it is amazing, however I'm really glad that I saw the film first, because it does seem that knowing the full plot line and real richness of the book would ruin the movie to a degree. So the movie is brilliant if you haven't read the book, and still pretty good even if you have done. Definately one to watch either way. Summary: |
