Advantages: Great actors
Disadvantages: None
Al Pacino plays Carlito Brigante, an ex-convict who decides that when he released from prison, he is going to change his ways, and become an honest citizen. This film is a great action thriller directed by Brian De Palma. Carlito is under pressure from his crooked lawyer friend David Kleinfeld, (Sean Penn) who takes advantage of the fact that Carlito feels indebted to him, as he is the man behind Carlito's release. After returning home, Carlito fights hard to get back together with his ex-girifriend Gail (Penelope Ann Miller), a beautiful dancer who he never thought he would see again. Before Carlito was jailed, they always dreamed of getting away to an exotic paradise together. However, Carlito's friendship with his lawyer puts his life and freedom in the balance. De Palma directs with lots of energy, and his job is made easier by good performances from the three main characters. Penn is at his best as Kleinfeld, Carlito's dishonest Jewish lawyer. But as well as being an excellent action movie, Carlito's Way is at times an emotional one, especially the ending. I found the film gripping, and I have watched it many times since it's release.

- 27/05/01 Would have been more interesting if you'd told us about the soundtrack, any special effects, directing, etc. You made a good job of telling the story though. |
