... park...... Carnival Of Souls is 46 years old (at the time of writing) it's shot in black and white, but unlike many other movies of the time it looks older than it actually is. The acting is edgy at best, and on initial gut instinct you cannot help but ask why the hell your watching this awful film. Watching Carnival Of Souls I can only imagine to be like I night on acid; it messes with your perception and your senses. While Mary is going up the wall so are you. I find myself asking a hundred times "Why did he/she do that?&...more

Mary is out with her friends for the evening, at some point during the night they decide that's it's a great idea to have a race. Two cars compete against each other across one of the most treacherous pieces of road in the county. All goes seemingly well but when they reach the bridge one car loses control, plunging Mary and her friends into the icy water. Seemingly unscathed Mary drags herself out of the water with the help of passers by. Shocked by the events of the afternoon Mary decides she has no alternative but to leave town. Wes Craven is a whore. Not in the sexual sense I might add, for that would be too disturbing to imagine, what I’m talking about is his liking to whore his name out to appear on sub standard horror movies in order to give them a little glitz and him a nice amount of money. Despite him being renowned for the Scream series his choice of films where he doesn’t have anything to do with them has been ‘interesting’ to say the least. Just because his name appears on a DVD case these days doesn’t mean it’s going to be good or indeed have anything to do with him. Carnival of Souls is one such choice where he is listed as executive producer but that doesn’t seem too likely. Given ...  Read the complete review

Wes Cravens Carnival of souls. This film comes with sub titles such as: “Wes Craven unleashes another stylish SCREAMER”, and “A nightmarishly surreal roller coaster ride of shocks and scares! But does this 18 certificate DVD live up to the dramatic sub titles? The film opens quite peacefully with a picking flowers. Having a basket full of them, she runs home to show her mummy. However, when she enters her home and calls out for her mummy, there is no reply! Is her mum ? Has she turned into a psychosomatic woman? Well, no actually she is in the bedroom with a rather strange man! The then sees her mummy…well maybe I ...  Read the complete review

If you think that you cant have a scary black and white movie then think again, Carnival of Souls is a very scary film. There was recently a remake of the film by Wes Craven but that was totally inferior to this version, you must see this version if you watch any. The plot is that there is a car race in a small town and it goes wrong, there is a crash and one of the cars goes into the local river, with 3 young women in it. After a couple of hours one of the women makes her way out of the river, stumbling, tripping up and unable to remeber any of the events that just occurred. That women is Mary Henry, a professional organist, to get ove rthe crash she moves ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Carnival Of Souls (DVD): ZZZZZZZZZ (160 words)

Carnival of Souls is essentially like a lot of drive in movies of the 1960's. Its tale is essentially one of something or someone watching you, possibly the man who follows the lead female could be a metaphor for the McCarthy 'Witch-hunts' from which America had just emerged from, or it could just be the usual 'red menace' satire which most early post-war US films seemed to try to capture. Either way, Carnival of Souls hold a place in some peoples hearts which I personally feel is un-deserved. It seems to push the man turning up and then dis-appearing to the limit of human endurance and I was banging my head against the wall by the end of ...  Read the complete review
