Advantages: Academy Award winner Heath is the main character
Disadvantages: Everything else!
My one piece of advice for someone thinking of buying this film is "don't".
I sat through this atrocity for...longer than I care to remember.
It stars Heath Ledger. Now, with the Academy Award winner's track record, you would assume that this film would be an object of true brilliance, and I'm afraid you would be totally wrong.
Heath Ledger's acting is about the only good thing about the film.
Where do I start? Ah, the accents. The accents are pitiful. An American trying to do an English accent hardly ever bodes well but this is ridiculous. I don't mean Heath Ledger by the way, I mean the mother of his love interest, played by Sienna Miller.
The writing is the worst thing about the film. Whoever wrote the script needs to have a rethink about just where they are going in life. The dialogue is awful, the comedy is slapstick, totally misplaced in this film and the storyline in general is ridiculous.
My advice to you, if you are truly interested in the story of Casanova (and not just seeing Heath in period costume), would be to get a book.
Summary: Just awful.
