Advantages: brings home a few truths
Disadvantages: swearing, rape, torture
I must admit this was not a nice film to watch, no happy ending and lots of violence, rape and language. It stars Micheal J Fox and Sean Penn, micheal plays the new addition to a small platoon of soldiers, sean Penn plays his superior. The film starts with a raid on a village, one of the residents is accused of witholding information. Back to base the leader gets mad, he wants revenge, so he orders his platoon to go with him back to the village. They go and kidnap the villagers daughter, they tie her hands and take her. Micheal does not agree with what they are doing but cannot stop them. They go on a recce andtake the girl, who remains traumatised throughout the film, eventually the whole platoon apart form Micheal rape her. He tries to help her escape and they get ambushed, in the gunfight the girl gets up and tries to walk off, resulting in one of the men killing her. Back at base, they are all reported, after some struggling they are court marshalled and given life sentences or hard labour. This film is full of bad language, it has a gripping story line but it really is not something to watch if you are looking for enjoyment.

- 09/08/00 You`re right cat (as usual.lol) I thought the story line was very strong, and gets the message across, not nice to watch though, the acting was so good in this it makes it more like reallity, and that`s what I done like the reality of it. |

- 09/08/00 I actually liked this film although liked isn't really the right word! Yes it is very disturbing but I also found it very moving. It must take an immense amount of courage to stick to what you believe is right even when the rest of the world is telling you you're wrong...I've never liked Micheal J Fox or Sean Penn but still liked this film so that must say something for it! |
