Advantages: Well acted, well scripted

Disadvantages: Maybe left wondering how much is true

The most incredible thing about this film without a shadow of a doubt is that this is a true story. It is obviously the case that we are unable to be exactly sure what regarding specific details is truth and what is fiction, (for example when he ticks a high class prostitute into paying him to spend the night together) the fact remains that Frank Abignale did indeed successfully impersonate a doctor, lawyer and pilot before the age of twenty. This film also benefits from excellent performances from Leonardo DiCaprio as Abignale and Tom Hanks as the man hot on his tail throughout most of the film. What is most impressive about DiCaprio's performance in this film is that you feel a great deal of sympathy and support for the character despite the reprehensible nature of his crimes, and you are often left amazed at his guile and intelligence. The film is well scripted, well acted and fast paced. It is also well worth mentioing that Christopher Walken puts in an excellent performance as Frank's father. The film is also rather sad as we see how the young man, caught up in his parents marriage difficulties and largely alone becomes the master criminal. Despite being over two hours in length this is an excellent film and highly recommended.
