... Den where you sell yourself instead of a product to an entity with the power to reincarnate you. There are some genuinely funny and touching moments in the film and it is excellent to see the set and costumes up close. The artistry is beyond question exquisite. And yet, there is something tired about this show. My 10 year old niece said to after ' I thought the Magical Mr Mistophiles would have been more magical'. Out of the mouth of babes. And she is right. While the leg warmers and risqué costumes captured our ...more

Premium Review Cats - Ultimate Edition (DVD): Call the vet, it's time to put the Cats to sleep (568 words)

I first saw this stage production of this when I was about 13 and thought it was great. I saw it again when it toured just before it closed and thought it was chronically dull and drawn out. I was 26 then. I still bought the DVD as I like some of the music. And I have a mixed opinion. The score is excellent and some of the tunes have become famous the world over. Susan Boyle has made Memory a well known tune recently through Britain's Got Talent and I have heard the 'Jellicle Ball' song on various programmes. The problem with this show is the story........or lack thereof. It's about a bunch of Cats who are selling themselves to get a chance at ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Feline musical mayhem! (424 words)

Rating:

This is a musical directed by Andrew Lloyd Webber and based on the T.S. Eliot work 'Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats'. The stories/songs follow various feline characters in a communtiy and how they are a mystical and mysterious creature. The musical therefore gives a fascinating insight into what the feline world may be like, we know so little about it! There are the young cats and the old, wise cats, as well as the local criminal, McCavity (!) And the stories and songs are really amusing! Everyone seems to have their favourite! Personally I love Mungojerry and Rumpleteaser (two mischief making siblings; an excellent performance vocally and physically by Drew ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Cats - Ultimate Edition (DVD): This is a" memory" you won't forget (177 words)

Seeing this film for the first time as a young child, I was mesmorised by the quality, not only of the music quality (which from Andrew Lloyd Webber is very high standard) but also from the dancing. These actors were brilliantly trained to perfection and the songs are some of the most well known songs now like the ever loved song "Memory". This musical inspired me to want to learn to sing and dance properly and now I have the proud achievement of grade 8 musical theatre. It really is an entrancing musical that would be a shame if you do not get the chance to see this in your lifetime. Having seen this I now wish to see it live in London ...  Read the complete review
