Advantages: Exciting, Based on True Story
Disadvantages: Possibly Don't Watch With Kids
I have to admit when my girlfriend first talked me into renting this film on DVD i was not too excited by the prospect of watching it as it is not the type of film i would usually go for, however when i watched it i ended up griped to the screen and loved it.
This Clint Eastwood film is based on true events from the 1920s in which a young mother Christine Collins (Angelina Jolie) returns from work late to find her young son missing. After weeks of agonizing waiting the women is re-united with a boy she is told is her son. After taking the boy home Christine is 100% certain that the boy is not her son and sets out find what has happened to her real son. However as the story develops the young women aided by the Reverend Gustav ends up in a battle against the LAPD to who are determined to make everyone believe that the boy is her real son in order to avoid accepting the embarrasment of such a huge mistake. All the women wants is her son back and is determined to do everything possible to find him.
As i said earlier i didn't believe this would be my kind of film but it was. You are kept constantly on edge by the film's various sub-stories. Not only are you kept guessing as to whether she will ever be re-united with her child but in conjunction with this a very interesting storyline also emerges which is the battle to bring the corrupt nature of the LAPD to justice spearheaded by the Reverend. To top this all off you are also keep interested by the Christine's battle just to maintain her sanity through all the trails and tribulations she faces throughout the film.
This film is the proverbial emotional rollercoaster and would surely bring at least a glimer of feeling to even the most composed film critic. the film also includes a pretty good pedegree of actors and actresses. As well as Angelina Jolie the film also casts well known actors such as Michael Kelly, John Malkovich, Colm Feore and Michelle Gunn.
I would highly recommend this film to everyone even if it is not your usual favoured genre of film. It is very interesting movie with various twists and turns which will keep you wondering if the women will ever be re-united with her son aslong as you don't know the story before watching the movie! The only thing I would say is this is probably not the best film to watch with kids as it may fail to keep them interested.
Summary: Very Exciting Film With Various Twists
