This was a good series, but quite a lot of the time I felt as though Charley was just using each mode of transport in order to add another number to the tally of transport types used. This, I felt, detracted from the programme, especially as it was displayed prominently at the bottom of the screen. This spoiled it a little for me as some of the 'means' seemed pointless, so much so that I wasn't sure...more

Premium Review Charley Boorman - By Any Means (DVD): Travel from Sydney to Japan with Charley (484 words)

This review is about both series' of 'By Any Means', the second of which is now finishing its run on the BBC. This series came about as an offshoot of 'Long Way Round' and 'Long Way Down', in which Ewan McGregor and his friend Charley Boorman went off on motorbike trips, firstly round the world and then down to Africa, both purely on motorbikes. Premium Review Where's Ewan?? (311 words)

I used some of my Dooyoo miles on an Amazon voucher recently, and brought this DVD. I've been a big fan of Long Way Down and Long Way Round and thought I'd give this DVD a try as well. This time Charley Boorman is on his own, and trying to get from Ireland to Sydney by any means of transport which are available and suitable for the area he is in. This involves tuk tuk driving, small plane flying and even catching a boat in Indonesia. Series is the producer - Russ Malkin. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Charley Boorman - By Any Means (DVD): By Any Means: The best documentary I have seen (426 words)
by - written on 24/07/09 (Very useful, 33 readings)
Rating:

When The Long Way Round and the Long Way Down came out, I watched both of them all the way through. I absolutely loved both of them, in fact I now have the special edition DVDs for both of them. So I figured that By Any Mean would be more of the same, and I wasn't dissappointed. What's it About? ---------------------- By Any Means involves 3 people. Charley Boorman (from the long way round/down), Russ Malkin (bestfriend and Director) alongside Mungo (Camera man). What happens in "By Any Means", is similar to the Long Way round, although it has a twist. Not unlike the Long Way Round/Down. By Any Means involves crossing the world ...  Read the complete review
