Advantages: See the before and after results, easy to follow
Disadvantages: Leaves you a bit sweaty
You know it’s Christmas when every tom, dick and Harry brings out a fitness video to help you shed those pounds gained after an hourly raid on the quality street tin.
Most of them are presented by the flavour of the month in Heat magazine and usually just money for old rope. The fact that the presenters are not exactly fat in the first place doesn’t really sell the video. Hence half price bargains come boxing day.
But there is a new queen of fitness and surprisingly it’s an ex-eastenders actress. Charlie Brooks played Janine Butcher in the gloomy soap and went off to do other things. She has a baby and gained some weight but this fitness dvd shows how she shed the pounds and shifted over 13,000 copies in one week.
JAAAANNNNNNIIIIIIINNNNNNNEEEEEEE!
Now I’ve generally just been doing a basic workout for a few months, I’ve lost a nice amount of weight doing weights and general basic exercises. But I wanted something to do a bit of controlled movement to. A work colleague lent me a copy of this dvd to try and I can see why it’s flying off the shelves.
For starters Charlie Brooks comes across as very down to earth and likeable. This puts you at ease and the whole workout is tinged with a nice sense of humour. This dvd also shows you a before and after. You see Charlie with the weight and then see her looking pretty good after sticking to the workout and a controlled diet. So guys and girls the results are there to see.
The workout is divided into five sections. These take in a warm-up, high intensity, disco, combat and Pilates.
WARM-UP
Ok it’s best to sit and watch this first before attempting it. The warm-up get’s you set-up for the workout ahead. The moves are pretty simple to follow and in ten minutes it builds up your heart rate to a decent level. I didn’t really keep up with it till the second attempt to be honest. Charlie and her trainer Dee Thresher keep a smile on their face throughout.
DISCO
This section is a fun and funky workout that get’s you moving. Now don’t expect to be John Travolta by partaking in it. But you will get your body burning the fat. The moves are easy to pick up and it’s a really good laugh.
COMBAT
Combat let’s you do a lot of on the spot movement. You can pretend to thump somebody’s lights out with constant repetition and get no pain in return. This part of the workout is incredibly easy to follow and you can get in the swing of things straight away. The great thing I found about this section is that it’s not particularly gruelling but you can feel it working.
HIGH INTENSITY
This is probably the hardest part of the workout and something that you have to build up to. As the title suggests, you’re required to put it a lot of work and really get that heart of yours pumping. Again it’s probably best to watch this section first before attempting it.
PILATES
This is a relaxing workout that helps tone and shape. You’ll need an exercise mat to do it. The various moves are easy to pick up but you’ll probably need a bit of strength in your muscles to get the full benefit. Again Charlie and Dee take things slowly and bring you into the workout at a nice pace.
The dvd also gives you a section of diet recommendations. Sticking to this as well as doing the workout at least three times in a week should yield results if you take it seriously and stick to it.
I was impressed with the Charlie Brooks routine and definitely recommend it.
Summary: Whilst yor brain is doing that, your body is burning fat!
