Written by one of the world's most famous writers of children's stories, Roald Dahl most people will be familiar with the story of a young lad called Charlie Bucket and his adventures at Willy Wonka's chocolate factory. Johnny Depp or Gene Wilder is the decision I thought I would have to make after watching this film but to my delight the films were very different so I did not have to make the choice! THE FILM This version of the film starts in a slightly different way to the original with us seeing 20 years before when Wonka started his business in a small shop and then expanded to the massive factory which he built. It's hard to believe that despite being based upon one of the best known childrens books ever written the 1971 film "Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory" was a huge box-office flop. It's subsequently been re-released both at the cinema and on VHS, DVD and Blu-Ray as a variety of commemorative anniversary specials.
