Written by one of the world's most famous writers of children's stories, Roald Dahl most people will be familiar with the story of a young lad called Charlie Bucket and his adventures at Willy Wonka's chocolate factory. As a child this book, written in 1964 was always a favourite of mine and like most good books it was soon turned into a film, Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory, which first hit our screens in 1971. I loved the film almost as much as I loved the book and despite its age it is still something that I could watch today and enjoy. I was therefore somewhat sceptical when I learned that this story was to be told again in 2005. I was even more ... Read the complete review

Johnny Depp or Gene Wilder is the decision I thought I would have to make after watching this film but to my delight the films were very different so I did not have to make the choice! THE FILM This version of the film starts in a slightly different way to the original with us seeing 20 years before when Wonka started his business in a small shop and then expanded to the massive factory which he built. It shows us how he had to sack all of his workers due to people spying and selling his secret recipes. We then go back to the present day which sees the news of 5 golden tickets being sent out for 5 children to have a tour of the factory, ... Read the complete review

It's hard to believe that despite being based upon one of the best known childrens books ever written the 1971 film "Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory" was a huge box-office flop. It's subsequently been re-released both at the cinema and on VHS, DVD and Blu-Ray as a variety of commemorative anniversary specials. I've seen it numerous times and read the book many more times but until last night I'd never seen Tim Burtons 2005 film "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory". The film starts with the quest for the Golden Ticket, five lucky children will discover hidden within a bar of Wonka Chocolate a ticket which will enable them to visit for ... Charlie and the Chocolate is taken from the book by Roald Dahl, there hs previously been one other film made from this book with Gene Wilder starring as Willy Wonka. When i heard that Tim Burton had decided to re-make this film i was quite interested although you already knew who Willy Wonka was going to be played by with the main character in his films normally being played by Johnny Depp. This film is about a young boy called Charlie Bucket (Freddie Highmore). His Grandfather Grandpa Joe tells him the story about when he used to work at the chocolate factory. He tells us that Willy Wonka came up with the most amazing ideas and because if this he ... I've just finished watching this for the third time, and I still enjoy watching it with my family. This is the remake of the children's novel of the same name by Roald Dahl. The first going by the name of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. The story follws the search of five golden tickets that have been issued by Willy Wonka. The lucky boys and girls who find these tickets are promised a tour of the mysterious chocolate factory where no-one ever goes in and no-one ever comes out. After the tour the lucky winners are also promised a lifetime supply of chocolate. However each child suffers a fate depending on their obsessions, each with its own ... Read the complete review
