Something happened to me tonight that I never thought would happen, at least not until I had grown up. ‘Clerks’, my favourite film of all time, has been equalled (that word has been decided upon only after a good minute of internal conflict between it and ‘bettered’). Kevin Smith is, probably, the greatest script-writer of our time. He’s probably one of the greatest directors of our time, too. His debut ‘Clerks’ was a master-stroke, proving finally that people amused by knob-jokes can be intelligent and sentimental too, while the extremely under-rated follow-up ‘Mallrats’ contains pieces of dialogue that, ... "Chasing Amy" is the third film of writer and director Kevin Smith, and by far the most personal. Whereas previous films "Clerks" and "Mallrats" have been entirely focused on comedy, "Chasing Amy" is more of a comedy-drama. The film focuses on the ups and downs of the relationship between comic book creator Holden (a fantastic performance from Ben Affleck) and Alyssa (Joey Lauren Adams). Holden and his best friend Banky (another star performance from Kevin Smith regular Jason Lee) are attending a comic book convention, when they are introduced to fellow comic-book creator Alyssa. Holden is immediately drawn to Alyssa, who ... Read the complete review

Although not finding out about Kevin Smith films until I saw the superb Dogma on Sky Movies a few of years ago I felt I had been missing out so set about catching up on his earlier work. And this film was one of those earlier films and in fact is the conclusion to his Jersey trilogy, which also includes the superb Mallrats and Clerks. Holden McNeil (Ben Affleck) and Bankey Edwards (Jason Lee) are comic book artists who are the brains behind the Bluntman and Chronic comical duo. Who in turn are based on Kevin Smith regulars Jay (Jason ... Read the complete review

note: also appears in part on Flixster and The Student Room Kevin Smith is most widely known for his more crude comedies such as Clerks and Dogma, but Chasing Amy is one film that stands alone in his collection a wholly clever without having to rely much at all on toilet hmour. It is without a doubt his most insightful film, and was a huge critical success, although obviously sacrifices some loud laughs as a result. Nevertheless, it is one of Smith's best films, as far as balancing sweetness and light goes. The film revolves around the characters Holden McNeil (Affleck) and Banky Edwards (Lee), who are comic book artists. One day, they meet Alyssa ... Read the complete review
