Advantages: Crazy film with a crazy cast Well portraide with class acting from all parties concerned
Disadvantages: none except I have to wait for girlie nights to watch them
Where do I start!
Firstly and foremost I pay tribute to the cast they were brilliant and played a very convincing set of roles these members were in no particular order as follows.
Renee Zellweger played Roxie Hart
A little miss nobody who screwed anything that walked and shot her lover when he tried to walk out on her ending her up in clink. With Husband trying to set her free. He poor sap doesn't get much of a mention and is pretty much her lapdog.
Catherine Zeta Jones who played Velma Kelly
A Second rate caberat singer who kills her sister and her lover when she discovers their infidelity also ending up in the clink. She fights her way out showing us a very complicated personality.
Then we have Queen Latiffa who plays Mamma the prison warder who is of course out for anything she can get and she supplies the girls accordingly with whatever they require as long as they can pay.
Then Richard Geere comes in playing Billy Flynne a corrupt lawyer who helps the girls in turn on a rotating basis throughout the film try to get of the hanging charges they most certainly deserve. But with his cool flamboyant style he flim flams his way through the judges arguements and gets the girls off.
John c Riley plays a wonderful part in this film too keep an eye open for him.
There are many cameo roles in this film played by some really good up and coming actors and actresses and also some who are already famous.
The whole story is centred around Roxie and Thelma and gives a portrail of what it could have been like in this period as it is played in the flapper era. I found it entertaining and brilliantly played and the music in it was well sung too. This aside who thought Richard Geere could hold a note and Renee and Catherine too. Well done guys.
This film took the world by storm in 2003 and was elected an award in the oscars for best picture.
I particularly liked the songs cell block tango and Mr cellophane man. I thought the rest were ok too but these were my favorites in the whole film and found myself sing them when nobody was about.
Not to be heard by an audience in my case. lol. as I sound like a cat being strangled but can appreciate raw talent when I see and hear it.
I have this DVD which in our house is classified a chick flick so I only get to see it when I am on my own.
So girlie nights are in order on the odd occasion to view these kinds of films.
Summary: Entertaining and moving film with some really good musical content
