I think this is one of the funniest Christmas films ever. All wives probably wish their husbands were as enthusiastic about Christmas as Chevy Chase in this film. This movie franchise started out well,but stumbled with 'European Vacation' (cars parked IN Stonehenge I ask you!).So this yuletide classic was a welcome return to form before the latest installment,the lamentable 'Vegas Vacation'. The film's strenghths lie in sticking to themes familiar to us all,namley the nightmare of Christmas in general and the pain of families in particular. Chevy Chase reprises his role as Clark W Griswold a hapless but optimistic family man who tries his best for his disinterested family.Beverley DiAngelo plays Ellen the sexy wife who appears mostly in a blouse that had 50% off if you get my snowdrift.As ever ... I really do cry with laughter throughout the whole film, and it hurts. Chevy Chase is so stupid, but he makes the film what it is. This type of film is never going to win an oscar, or anything of similar statue, and it is over 10 years old, but it not old fashioned in any way and it's still shown and TV some Xmas. So this Xmas keep your eyes peeled and watch out for any of the National Lampoon films, particularly Vacation, European Vacation and Christmas Vacation. I would advise that you miss the latest installment called Vega Vacation (1997ish). It stars Chevy Chase but soon of the jokes are worn thin. Avoid this one. Scenes to look out for in Christmas ...
