I think this is one of the funniest Christmas films ever.
All wives probably wish their husbands were as enthusiastic about Christmas as Chevy Chase in this film. But at the same time they also probably feel grateful that their husbands do not ruin everything else in the procedure of preparation and excitement.
Clark Griswold (Chevy Chase) is an enthusiastic father, who wants the perfect Christmas for his family. He is very lucky to have a wife like Ellen (Beverly D'Angelo) who is very patient and understanding, no matter what goes wrong on the way.
His teen-aged daughter Audrey (Juliette Lewis) is not so happy and satisfied all the time. She has to share bedroom with her little brother Rusty (Johnny Galecki), as the whole family is invited for the festivities, including all the grandparents, and Clark's aunt and uncle.
Ellen's cousin Catherine (Miriam Flynn) also shows up with her dodgy husband Eddy (Randy Quaid) and their children, with their rusty RV, to stay with the Griswolds for a month, and to cause even more trouble.
I enjoy watching this film, especially around Christmas, as it makes me laugh and puts me in a Christmas-mood.

Summary: Jeremiah S. Chechik's holiday classic to make everyone cry of laughter

This is basically just a synopsis, with no real insight that I can see.
