I have to admit before I say anything else that I do not like courtroom dramas. I think I've grown tired of the genre being hijacked on the big stage by adaptations of John Grisham novels, which are all pretty much the same old thing, and by the huge number of very weak, melodramatic made for TV movies which litter the small screen. In light of that, it would have taken something pretty special to have made "A Civil Action" in the slightest bit interesting to me so the fact that I was bored by the time 20 minutes had passed and on the verge of switching over after 40 should be considered with that in mind. This film is a must see. The drama is rivetting, the acting is superb and the film is actually based on a true story. John Travolta (who looks and acts every bit the part) is a lawyer who ends up taking on a case involving parents of eight children who died in a small town through 'drinking the water'. The town has a cluster of Lukemia which parents believe is the result of toxins being let into the water supply from nearby industry. John Travolta sets out to prove it. John Travolta plays a Lawyer that works for an insurance company . He starts off trying to save money ,after a woman puts her case to him on a talk show, on radio . He is sent by his company to placate her and make an offer ,so their problem goes away .They believe the personal touch will do the trick . Several parents have lost their children to leukemia ,because of contaminated drinking water. One mother really touches his heart , he ends up losing all his worldly goods to compensate her. its a courtroom drama with some great acting. no action or stunts, just storyline and a good sit down movie. about a company who spills waste into a water supply harming a town of people over many years travoltas character is the lawyer for the town of ill or dead victims. great ending where the good guys win i watched it on TV a couple times and then ended up buying the DVD so i can watch it again. what more can i say i liked ...
