This is a seven-film box set of American 50s science fiction films. There are few extras, but for £20 this is quite a bargain. It contains most of the iconic 50s sci-fi classics. The 1950s saw a boom in science fiction films. Traditional horror movies rather died out in the mid-40s (maybe in response to the real horrors uncovered at the end of the war); in the 50s the scariest movies were all sci-fi. The fear of Communism and radiation, the space race, and the first UFO sightings all played into the vogue for sci-fi. America seemed poised on the brink of a brilliant, gleaming scientific future.
