Advantages: Good funny film , the start of something great

Disadvantages: Some of the dark camera shots are a bit iffy, Peeps who judge this film purely on it being in b/w

Possibly one of the most low budget films ever (just over $27,000) but this is probably what makes it so great.

This was Kevin Smiths entry into the film world and what an entry. Filmed in black and white after hours at his place of work Smith wrote and directed Clerks.

This film is basically about a day in the life of clerks Dante and Randal. Dante works in the quick stop convenence store while Randle works opposite in a video store.

All day Dante is plagued by the worst customers in the world from a guy trying to convince people not to buy cigarettes, to an old guy wanting to use the toilet. Despite all this he trys to be nice to customers and keep up what he feels to be his responsibility.

While best friend Randal is the compleate opposite he's late to work rude and even sells cigarettes to four year olds.

Through a mass of customers he also has to sort out his love life after finding out some details about his girlfriends past that he rather wouldn't know. And to top it all off his ex is getting married, now what will Dante do?

So why not pull up a chair and spend 98 minutes in the quick stop convenience store. Be prepared for rudeness drug dealing and your own frequent laughter. Oh and of course Jay and silent Bob.

And one more thing, what IS that smell of shoe polish?

I am probably not clever enough to understand why people think this is a classic. Thanks for the heads up though.
