Advantages: Very Funny

Disadvantages: boring in parts

Clerks was Kevin Smiths first film and is amazing funny. The story follows Dante a discount store worker who is made to work on his day off because another worker is sick. Hes going to miss his Hockey game now, and his ex-girlfriend is getting married to someone else.

The main point of this movie is the great dialogue, Smith knows how to make people laugh though great conversations.
The film also gave birth to Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Kevin Smith), the funniest characters ever invented.

The region 1 DVD is a great one being a miramax collectors edition. It has an amazing funny audio commentary in which Jason Mewes is asleep just about all the way through, snoring into the mic when Kevin Smith passes it to him. It also has Deleted scenes which some are amusing and also includes an alternative ending, in which at the end a robber comes in and shoots Dante killing him then robs the store. Five minutes later Silent Bobs comes in ans steals a packet of fags. Music video and trailer are also on here.

One of the funniest scenes is where the chewing gum sales man is trying to get every one who wants a packet of cigs to buy chewing gum instead by showing them lungs of a smoker.

After the credits in Dogma it says that Jay and Silent Bob will return in Clerks 2 : Hardly Clerkin' but recently Kevin Smith recently said there would be no sequel, Work that one out.

Oh and its in Black and White.

Randall works at a video store but doesnt really like it, he even goes as far as to goto another video store to hire a video to watch at work. Really bored he decides to leave to see his friend Dante, who works next door at the local store. On the way there he gets harassed by Jay and Silent Bob, but he doesn't care. Just as long as he doesn't have to deal with the idiots at the video store, he is a happy man.

Dante doesn't like working at the convenience store any more than Randall likes working a
t the video store, but he takes his job a little more seriously. By a little more seriously, I mean he doesn't lock up the store to visit Randall but will still close it to play hockey on the roof. "Clerks" is a peek into the lives of these people. These people may not be lawyers, or doctors, but they are perceptive, and they love to hate people.

Kevin Smith has made a great movie that shows us what these people really think about the consumers, its hard to believe that this is his first movie. Picky consumers, stupid consumers, and stubborn consumers are all just a normal day for these people, but Dante and Randall let these people know that their business is not appreciated. Take the scene when Randall refuses to give an opinion on a woman's movie selection. First he is rude, then he is outright cruel by insulting the woman and making her feel small. As she storms out of the store and she tells him that she is not going to rent at his store, he quickly retorts, "You're not allowed to rent here anymore!"

"Clerks" is vile, "Clerks" is rude, and "Clerks" is very, very funny. The best characters in the film are Jay and Silent Bob, two drug dealers that hang out in between the video and convenience stores. In the films most outlandishly funny scene, the two dead brains perform in one of the funniest dance sequences that I have ever seen. Jay and Silent Bob go on to appear in every Smith movie to date, but only feature in Chasing Amy ina breif cameo where bob is anything but Silent.

"Clerks" was originally doomed with an NC-17 due to its crude nature, but Kevin Smith petitioned his film because it contains no nudity or no violence. It is only dialogue, and witty, funny dialogue it is. This film is quick to offend, and Smith doesn't really care whose toes he steps on. It's refreshing that someone can make a film and not be scared off by the tyrant MPAA who gives ou
t ratings without any set of standards. Bravo, Mr. Smith for delivering a crude, funny and real portrait of twenty-somethings whose lives are on a one way track to nowhere.

The DVD version also includes an alternate set of closing credits. Instead of music, the credits are shown over cash register sound effects. At the very end of the credits there's also a brief scene showing Silent Bob (played by director Kevin Smith) entering the store. Seeing that nobody is behind the counter (Dante has been shot during the hold-up) he steals a pack of cigarettes and leaves.
All of Smiths films link to together well with cross overs between them all, Randal's cousin Walter is the same Cousin Walter referred to in Brodie's story in Mallrats, making Randal and Brodie cousins. The funeral in Clerks is for the girl who died while swimming, mentioned in Mallrats. Clerks takes place on a Saturday, the day after the events in Mallrats.
Other things aobut the movies of interest are that it was filmed at the same store in which director Kevin Smith was working at the time. As he was only allowed to film outside of business hours, the plot included an explanation for the shutters being always down. Jason Mewes (Jay) was left off the cover and poster for because executives believed him to be too odd-looking for advertising.

I very good film which was actually the last Kevin Smith film I seen.

One of the best films i have ever seen, Kevin Smith is both a good director and actor. I can't wait for the new one.
