It's pleasantly surprising not only see such a rare and unseen film as Close to Home on Dooyoo, but even more shocking that it's actually been reviewed by someone else! This film was part of my Cultural Ideology and Film class at University, and is incredibly unique in that it is the very first film about the experience of women soldiers in the Israeli army, and among the very few (short of Demi Moore's middling vehicle G.I. Jane) that deal with the experience of female members of any Army. Someone once said that isn't it strange that the Jews and the Palestinians hate each other so much when they are so much alike, both isolated and mistrusted in equal measure by the rest of the world, only a handshake away from paradise. With some decent investment the West Bank and Gaza could become a trendy beach resort on the Med and Israel a retirement home for truculent Jews. It worked in the Lebanon when they knocked heads together and could work here.
