Flint Lockwood is not your normal teenage lad. This boy has dreams of becoming the next big thing and to invent something which will change the world as we know it. Flint lives in a very small town called Swallow Falls with his father Tim who owns the local fish shop and seems to have taken a few knocks in life since his wife passed away. When I first saw the trailers for Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs (henceforth known as Cloudy...) my first reaction was ambivalence. It seems that every two weeks at the cinema now there is a new animated 3D 'spectacular' for us to enjoy and I, like many others I'm sure, find myself unmoved to fork out hard cash for the latest star-studded voice-cast hulking brute of Family Entertainment. Too often these films spend far too much time planning how to get the sly winks to the adults in and not enough time focussing on something that appeals to all ages, timeless storytelling. note: also appears in part on Flixster and The Student Room Animated films are a dime a dozen, but few are this fun or inventive, and I must confess that I think that Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, that's based on the children's book of the same name by Judi Barrett and Ron Barrett. Although I imagine few will agree with me, I think this matches some of Pixar's output - it is witty, hilarious, and provides enough visual wonder and chuckles for audiences young and old. ~~Plot~~ Imagine living on an island in the middle of the Atlantic where the main catch of the day is sardines.
