Premium Review Clue (DVD): Haven't got a CLUE what's going on here! (372 words)
by - written on 22/03/08 (Very useful, 21 readings)
Rating:

In 1985, Jonathan Lynn took the helm to direct the film of the popular board game, Cluedo. Clue is the result, a high-powered and intense murder mystery that doesn't let up. The Plot Six people are gathered in a mansion for a dinner party, but one of them has murder in mind for the host. Who dunnit takes another twist and turn every minute as we are kept guessing as to who killed who. The Cast and Performances The six main characters from the board game are all here, with a slight change: there is Mrs Peacock, Mrs White, Professor Plum, Mr Green, Miss Scarlett and Colonel Mustard. The change is that in the board game, it is ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Films Based on Boardgames an 80s Phenomenon (796 words)

Rating:

You could not pay me enough money to live inside the brain of a Hollywood executive. Apart from the inane babble and overpowering influx of quality drugs I just not get to grips with how they decide which films get made. Recently the trend for films is all about Stars, sequels and computer games. To be honest I can see where they are coming from here as all these elements make money (but not always art). So who in their right mind thought that producing a film based on a popular family board game would succeed? ‘Clue’ is the American name for Cluedo, so the film is straddled with this moniker. If you can recall Christmas’ past and remember you and your ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The Butler did it...????????? (475 words)
by - written on 29/11/00 (Very useful, 138 readings)
Rating:

Forget Monopoly, forget Trivial Pursuit, Cluedo is without doubt the greatest board game of all time. The formula is so simple, find out who committed the dastardly dead, but it's not quite that simple in practice. You think you've got the answer but as often as not, somewhere you got it wrong and it turns out it wasn't Prof Plumb at all. Just the perfect scenario for a movie and the wonder is that it took so long for someone to make it. Clue is a hilarious comedy, the first feature by British comedy actor and director, Jonathan Lynn. It is based on the characters of the famous Parker Brothers' board game, Cluedo, with additional ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Clue (DVD): Clueless (218 words)

Rating:

I remember seeing this film a year or so ago and it was somewhat of an amusement. It is loosely based on the board game Cluedo, which I enjoy playing, so I thought I would brave the film The plot: A group of guests are invited the mysterious Hill Hall for a dinner and some after dinner pursuits.
