Coach Carter is a 2005 film from director Thomas Carter and is an MTV film. It was the highest grossing MTV film ever on its opening weekend, and is based on a true story. The Plot Ken Carter is a successful sports shop owner. He agrees to coach basketball at his old high school, as long as he does it his way. The team is in dire straits. The players do not understand the complete game, and they see basketball as the most important part of their lives. The Movie The real life coach (Ken) Carter made the news in 1999 for closing the Gym and banning any basketball activities because several of the students in his team were not doing well in the classroom. The reason he took drastic action was because all the students on the team signed contracts that they would meet a minimum criteria which encompassed all of their education, not just the basketball side of it. Six years later in 2005 Samuel L Jackson steps into Carter's shoes for the movie where he transforms an unfit, uneducated, uncaring bunch of delinquent kids who won 4 basketball games the previous season into winners. Not only winners in terms of ... Read the complete review

Since I heard about this basketball-related film, I've wanted to see it, but never got round to watching it, until now. When I finally saw it, I realised that I had been missing out. "Coach Carter" is a 2005 film starring Samuel L. Jackson, distributed by Paramount, produced by MTV Films. The plot is based on a true story which followed the actions of Coach Ken Carter and his 1999 Richmond (, California) High-School basketball team. ===Plot=== The film is based on a true story and it is surprising how many of the scenes are based on actual events which occurred in real-life. You won't believe them until you actually see th real ... Read the complete review

Inspirational sports films are a dime a dozen and we've all seen them before: they range from being pretty good (Remember the Titans) to almost good (Gridiron Gang), to some lesser efforts that get too caught up in schmaltz and sentiment without crafting a moving or genuine story in between. Coach Carter is a film that manages to escape the criticisms of the genre by presenting a moving story that, while hardly original, benefits massively from a charismatic and dedicated performance from Samuel L Jackson in the eponymous role. Ken Carter (Jackson) takes over a fledgling high school team and has plans to make sure that they fix up: they have to agree to keep ... Read the complete review

Coach Carter is based on the story of the real life Ken Carter who was a high school basketball coach who banned his whole team from playing due to poor academic performance in their classes. The film itself is more dramatised than the real story but it doesn't make it any less of an amazing story from the real Ken Carter. Set in a rough inner city high school, former pupil Ken Carter agrees to take over as coach of their struggling basketball team. By making the players train harder and play harder than ever before he is able to help them become one of the best teams in the country at high school level. However, he makes them agree to work hard in class so ... Read the complete review
