... such a talented man has to plumb such depths. The plot revolves around Melanie Porter (Raven-Symoné), a frankly irritating 17-year-old, is getting ready to go to University, and has her heart set on Georgetown, while her father, Chief James Porter (Martin Lawrence), is overly protective, and wants her to go to Northwestern. However, James decides to take her and her friends, Nancy (Brenda Song) and Katie (Margo Harshman), on a surprise road trip to D.C. to check the University out, ensuring that all sorts of "fun...more

College Road Trip (DVD): Totally inept comedy (306 words)

And just when you thought that Martin Lawrence couldn't get any lower, he goes and does something like this. After a couple of comedy hits in Blue Streak and, of course, the Bad Boys films, Martin Lawrence has had a drought of GOOD projects, and after he made Black Knight, his career path just seemed to go down the toilet. So, as a spectacle to see how low Lawrence will go, is the film at least perversely funny? Sadly, not really, it's just rather depressing to think that such a talented man has to plumb such depths. Well I have just watched this film on Box Office with my little brother, his suggestion, and I must say I wasn't really expecting much from a kids film, but it did keep me entertained. College Road Trip is about a young girl (Melanie) leaving High school in the USA, and about to go to college, her father played by Martin Lawrence, wants her to stay nearby and go to North Western University just 40 miles from their home in Illinois, but when she gets an offer to go to her all time favourtite Georgetown University in Washington DC, she doesn't want to give it up and a Road Trip for an Application interview is in order. She plans on going wither ...  Read the complete review

The Road Trip movie....... a genre that has been done to death but this one featured Donny Osmond so I reckoned it was worth a look ! Just released this week on DVD I watched it flying over to Las Vegas last summer. Unlike some other movies that get cut to bits by the airlines Disney movies usually survive this very american censorship and the plot survives. This film to be honest isn't big on plot though. It's the standard parent not wanting to let their child grow up, misunderstandings, bit of slapstick, bit of sentimentality and everyone lives happy ever after formula that Disney does better than most. The Dad is played by Martin Lawrence -as the hapless ...  Read the complete review
