John Matrix (Arnold Schwarzenegger) is a retired soldier. His old outfit of elite soldiers is being systematically hunted down and killed. Matrix's old commanding officer, General Kirby, arrives at his family mountain retreat with the bad news. His daughter, Jenny (a young Alyssa Milano) is dead set against the idea of her Dad going back to his old job. He concurs and refuses Kirby's offer of tracking down the perpetrators. However, that would make a very poor, and short, movie. Obviously, it isn't long before the bad guys show up and throw their weight around a bit. Catching Big Arnie unawares means that they can kidnap Jenny in the hope that he ... Read the complete review

I caught this TV the other night, the first time I've watched in it years. John Matrix (Arnold Scharzenegger) is a retired special ops colonel who's old team is being murdered. A rogue member of his team, Bennett (Vernon Wells), kidnaps Matrix's daughter Jenny (a young Alyssa Milano) at the behest of Arius (Dan Hedaya). Arius was a dictator overthrown by John's team and now is blackmailing Matrix to assassinate the man who took over after the coup so he can reclaim power. Matrix is put on a flight and told if the henchman accompanying him doesn't call in when they arrive at their destination, Jenny will be killled. This gives Matrix 11 hours to find out where ... note: also appears in part on The Student Room and Flixster Commando is quite possibly the best guilty pleasure ever put to film - it's absurd, but it's also extremely entertaining and one of Arnie's very best films, even if it's not as refined as Predator or Terminator 2. The film revolves around John Matrix (Arnold Schwarzenneger), a retired soldier who is asked to return to the field one more time by his old general Franklin Kirby. He refuses, saying he lives for his daughter, Jenny (a very young Alyssa Milano). However, soon enough his house is attacked, and Jenny is kidnapped by Matrix's former ally Bennett, who contends that Matrix has 24 ... Read the complete review

John Matrix (Arnold Schwarzenegger) and his daughter Jenny are living in a gorgeous cabin deep within the mountains in the state of California enjoying a peaceful life. Matrix is now a retired Colonel after being the leading member of a commando team. He has promised his daughter a new life away from danger and instability. This all changes when Matrix's superior makes an unwelcome effort to visit him, one General Franklin Kirby. He warns Matrix that he might be a target since the rest of 'his' team has been assassinated. From this we learn that the killings were actually a plan to find out the whereabouts of Matrix and that they were conducted by someone who ... Read the complete review

On Saturday night I was at a bit of a loose end for something to do so decided to raid my dvd collection. This bargain bin classic was the first I picked up, and as it happened I quite fancied watching Arnie kick butt in the way that only he can. The premise of 'Commando' is fairly straight forward; Arnie plays John Matrix a muscle bound [of course!] special forces Colonel who has now retired and lives with his daughter in a remote mountain retreat. He is forced back into action when one of the former members of his unit kidnaps his daughter trying to force him to assassinate the president of Val Verde [a fictional country] to install a corrupt dictator in ...
