Advantages: Pretty good acting, watchable light hearted and amusing film
Disadvantages: Could have been made funnier, deviates from the books
I'm a fan of the shopaholic books and was looking forward to the film being out. The book is entitled The Secret Dreamworld of a Shopaholic but for some reason they have called the film Confessions of a Shopaholic.
There were quite a lot of deviations from the book - not least the fact the story is now set in New York rather than London. Perhaps the film would be better enjoyed and taken just as it is if you haven't read the book.
I was expecting the film to be funnier. There were parts where i smiled and it was a general feel good , easy to watch chick flick but very few laugh out loud moments which i like in my chick flick/ rom com films!
Isla Fisher was probably the best thing in it , playing Becky Bloomwood - the shopaholic. Isla fitted into the role well and was how I imagine Becky to be from the books. She played the role very naturally and did the comedy moments well. The film centres on Rebecca (Becky) Bloomwood who is a shopaholic who is in debt and somehow lands herself a job as a journalist for a financial magazine. I won't give too much of the story away but it is all about her trying to dodge her debt and at the same time becoming a successful journalist for the magazine telling other people how to be savvy with their money!
The whole film was very watchable but I think I would have preferred it to have been set in London like the books and also a few more laugh out loud moments would have been good.
