Confessions of a Shopaholic is a 2009 Romantic-Comedy that lives up to its billing by providing chemistry and good comic-lines.

Plot

The movie is based around main character Rebecca Bloomward (played by Isla Fisher), a young lady who dreams of working as a journalist. She lands herself a financial column and wittingly writes this advice column to help those struggling with their finances. However, she seems unable to take her own advice as her addiction to shopping, gives her unmanagable debts. This alongside her fondness for her boss, provides the movie with a strong storyline in a time of recession. As in most rom-com's the ending is happy, but i won't say anymore so as not to spoil it.

My Thoughts

This Romantic Comedy has to live up to strong films over the years being seen in it's category (Mean Girls, 10 Things I Hate About You) but forfills its role perfectly in a time of worry and recession. Whilst like many films of this genre, the movie is completely predictable, the original scriptwriting and strong acting all but make up for this.

The scriptwriting for this movie is generally good as the film conveys a serious message whilst also including comic and romantic complications. Isla Fisher in the lead role of Rebecca creates a natural likability to the character. This is needed. Without Isla i fear this film would not be anywhere near as entertaining as her natural acting exudes humour and likability. Krysten Ritter plays Rebecca's best friend. She is very strong in this role as is humourous in her many altercations with Fisher. The love interest is needed in this film with Hugh Dancy playing the delectable luke. Whilst luke doesn't return Bloomwoods love until the end of the film both the major characters have a likability that allows the film to shine with humour.

This film is definately worth a watch!

Summary: Must Watch rom-com
