Advantages: Cast, Story, Adaption from the book

Disadvantages: Talking mannequins, not for everyone

I had been looking forward to this film ever since I found out that it was being made, since I had read the books and really liked them. So when me and my friend decided to go out one Wednesday and make use of her orange wednesday offer, I thought this would be the perfect film to see. We arrived for the 6.00 showing and sat down. Trailers were average and included Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince and Hannah Montana: the movie.

The basic idea of the film is that Rebeca Bloomwood is a journalist who enjoys spending a bit too much - it's gotten her into $15,000 worth of debt. To get back into the green again, she decides to try and make more money through various ways, none of which work out too well. Although she tries to get into a high end fashion magazine, her dream job she instead ends up working at Sucessful Saving, ironically enough. She becomes known as the girl in the green scarf after starting her own column at the magazine, and is loved all over the world. It's a simple enough plot that makes for a great film, especially suited for those who prefer to not have to think when they go to the cinema, and just indulge in mindless films. There is also a lot of comedy in it, and lots of funny moments that will have you laughing out loud.

Being a romantic comedy, there weren't really any special effects, not counting the talking mannequins, which I found quite pointless.

The setting and backdrop of the film was excellent, and there were some beautiful images of New York an its skyline included, howeer it wasn't all based in the city as there were also some other scenes in the film that included a hotel.

For the most part the soundtrack was forgettable, howeer there were some really good songs on there that are worth a few more listens, the prominent one in my mind being Fashion by Lady Gaga, if I had not known then I would have assumed that it was from her album as it embodies her style so well and is such a typical song from her.

The cast hasn't got many A listers in, but they still work well together. The main cast is -
Isla Fisher as Rebecca Bloomwood
Hugh Dancy as Luke Brandon
Krysten Ritter as Suze
John Goodman as Graham Bloomwood
Joan Cusack as Jane Bloomwood
John Lithgow as Edgar West
Kristin Scott Thomas as Alette Naylor
Leslie Bibb as Alicia Billington
Isla Fisher, probably the most famous member of the cast was really good for the part of Becky and managed to get into character really well. I really enjoyed her performance and am going to be looking out for her in other films.
Hugh Dancy was someone I had never heard of, and I was unsure about what he would be like, but these doubts were quickly quashed as soon as he came onto the screen, he had really good chemistry with Isla and thats always a plus. Also, the film would probably be worth seeing just for him, as he does look very nice! Will also be looking out for him in future films.
The rest of the cast worked very well and the casting director did an excellent job.

Overall, a really good film that I will be buying when it comes out on DVD, I'd recommend to anone who enjoys these sorts of films.

Summary: Great chick flick thats a great book adaption.
