Advantages: Funny!
Disadvantages: Swapped London for New York
Confessions Of A Shopaholic is an American romantic comedy movie , based on a series of books by Sophie Kinsella named 'The Shopaholic Series'. The film was released in the United Kingdom on 20th February 2009. The film stars Isla Fisher. Running time of the movie is one hundred and four minutes (sixteen minutes under two hours). This movie is a PG movie which means it can be seen by children of all ages providing they have a parent watching the movie with them.
I had read a few books from the 'Shopaholic Series' and I had enjoyed them so much , that I decided to see the film. I was lucky that my friend who has a MASSIVE!!! DVD collection , owned a copy a this film (she's always the first to buy a movie the minute is comes out on DVD!) and asked her if I could borrow it.
Rebecca Bloomwood has it all ; a trendy flat in New York , Socialate friends , a wardrobe to die for. However she has a small problem...actually not a small problem. In fact a very big one! She can't actually afford any of this.....
Soon major events follow , but will it be enough to keep Rebecca far enough away from her ever-so-fast-increasing debt ? Watch Confessions Of A Shopaholic to find out!
First of all , my first impression of this movie , judging by the cover of the DVD is that it looked a bit 'crazy'. I had enjoyed the books from the series which I had read , but I still wondered whether this movie would be a little 'too over the top' and hard to keep up with. Although , I was proved wrong , the movie was indeed crazy ,but yet it was simple enough to follow , which I found nice as it meant I could watch this movie whilst chilling out , and didn't really have to concentrate too much as there wasn't too much 'twists' in it. It also means that it is a nice , easy film for children to watch , although I would say it is a bit more of a 'girls' movie' than a boys. I would reccommend it to children over the age of ten , not that it contains any violence etc , just because a lot happens in this movie and so it is easier for older chiildren to 'keep up' with it.
Until this movie , I had never really considered myself a fan of Isla Fisher. I had seen her in another movie called The Wedding Daze (which I did not enjoy at all!) and so , I wasn't really sure what to expect with this movie , seeing as she was cast as the lead role. However , I was pleasantly suprised. Her acting in general and her humour were perfect! She really showed that she could carry this 'huge' role off. I liked the character of Rebecca , because although she was 'silly' at times , she was the sort of character you just had to love.
One criticism I do have of the film is that , having read one of the books from the series , i kept comparing the movie to the books , and one thing I was disapointed in was the fact that they had 'swapped' the setting of the movie from London (in the book) to New York (in the film). This also meant that the character of Rebecca was changed from British to American. I enjoyed the film as just a film , but because it was based on books I had read ,there were big changes. I really enjoyed the film though , and this wasn't enough to put me off it. Although in a way , I suppose it's a good thing that the movie is different to the books , otherwise the readers would know exactly what was going to happen , so it was quite nice to have some changes.
There is a lot of comedy in the movie , despite some of it being plain silly at times , although I did find myself with the giggles at times ; especially when hearing some of Rebecca's lame excuses of why she was in such debt. It made me laugh out loud! Also , Isla's attempt at humour was spot on!
Although the main character , Becky had debt problems , You just can't help wishing you had her 'glitzy' life , where it's all about shopping , shopping , shopping!
I would reccommend this film!
Thanks For Reading!
