Advantages: Nice story, Isla Fisher is good at this sort of role

Disadvantages: Gets a bit unrealistic and boring

Another LoveFilm, another of the missus' chick-flicks....I wonder when one of "my" films is going to come through....

Adapted from the best-selling book of the same name by Sophie Kinsella it follows the ups and downs of shopaholic Rebecca Greenwood (played by Isla Fisher, or Mrs Ali G as I like to call her). Rebecca works for a fashion magazine and has a serious shopaholic problem. Prada, Gucci, they're all in easy reach as long as she has her trusted credit card!

Unfortunately, just as in real life, this sort of spending can't be sustained forever and she maxes out her (various) credit cards just as her employer goes bust!

Taking an unexpected interview at a renowned finance magazine Rebecca stumbles through and manages to catch the eye of editor Luke Brandon (Hugh Dancy) and he hires her to write a finance column directed at all the shopaholics out there.

As expected, the chemistry grows between Rebecca and Luke and the film picks up the pace a little as Rebecca is constantly evading the clutches of the citie's debt collector while trying to hide her financial problems from her new employers.

All in all, it's a bit too much like Devil Wears Prada with a bit more comedy thrown in. Fisher is great acting a bit ditzy and Dancy reminded me a bit too much of Hugh Grant in the bumbling Englishman in New York routine. It's an ok movie to watch with a partner and the ladies will enjoy it but theres not enough there to keep the guys entertained.

Theres an undercurrent story here as well which is showing how to control debt. I don't agree with the morals of Rebecca hiding from the ever-zealous debt collector.....but then it wouldn't have been much of a movie if she'd paid all her debts within 5 minutes of the opening credits would it?

Summary: Girl spends money. Falls in love. Happy ending.

Seen this film so many times now and still love it, I blame it on the lack of decent films on the plane when I went on holiday. I watched it about twice on the way there and once on the way back. Brill review. Kirsty x
