Advantages: a surprisingly funny romcom you can watch over and over.
Disadvantages: slightly random mash of events
The first time I watched this film was on the plane, but due to the quality, did not fully appreciate this, and thus got this on DVD to enjoy fully, and it was much better.
~~~DVD COVER~~~
The DVD cover is greatly attractive, colourful, and tells you somewhat about the film. It is quite comedic in itself which will draw attention and ask you to pick it up, and once you do, you're probably drawn into it already.
~~~THOUGHTS ON PLOT~~~
I thought the general plot was acceptable. There isn't really any linear path that the film follows, but a string of events, that, to be honest, could've been ANYTHING, and the film would've still worked out.
Basically, it tells of the story of Rebecca Bloomwood who is a shopaholic, owns 12 credit cards and goes on rampant shopping sprees whenever she sees fit, yet the irony is that she gets into a fit when the bills come, and she starts working at a "money advice giving" magazine, falls in love with her boss Luke Brandon and starts being chased up by the debt collector, Derek Smeath.
All these things come together somehow and form this plot, where gags and slapstick humour is thrusted in here and there, and it works. Not only did it make me laugh throughout, but even at the very end, they managed to squeeze out a few laughs.
~~~CAST~~~
Isla Fisher (Rebecca Bloomwood)- Fisher does a good job at being the cute, yet ditzy character of Rebecca Bloomwood, although her constant lying makes her somewhat unlikeable, although it all backfires on her, which I guess is part of the moral in this film. She does a very good job at pulling off the comedy and making it believable NOT cheesy, which is great.
Hugh Dancy (Luke Brandon)- There isn't much room for him to shine here, only perhaps being the handsome male lead, and yet he doesn't do very well in that department either.
The film also features Joan Cusack, John Goodman, John Lithgow, Kristen Scott Thomas and Krysten Ritter.
~~~LENGTH~~~
The film lasts around 1 hour 40 mins.
~~~EXTRA FEATURES~~~
The DVD contains Deleted Scenes, Bloopers and a Shontelle Music Video, the latter is completely pointless. If I wanted to see it, I can easily find it on Youtube. The bloopers and deleted scenes are quite interesting although appropriately edited OUT.
~~~PRICE~~~
You can purchase this for around £5 online.
~~~OVERALL~~~
A surprisingly enjoyable ROM COM that you can watch again and again.
Summary: enjoyable! 4*
