My friend gave me the Confessions of a shopaholics books to read and to be honest I did read them but I didn't think much of them as the writing style annoyed me and I found the main character to be too annoying to read. The film came out and I love Isla Fisher as I think she is fabulous so I thought I didn't enjoy the books but I may aswell watch the film as I bet it is different. It was very different but still as silly all the same but I liked it and here is why.

This is a film only review again as I watched it on the plane.

Story wise and this film follows the exploits of Rebecca Bloomwood who gets a job as a financial journalist and advises people on money issues. Rebecca however in her personal life she is so far away from work as she constantly shops, fights any bills she gets and also has to dodge visits from the bank member Derek Smeath who wants to talk to Becky about her finances.

Yes this story is funny. The idea of somebody who advises people about money and then goes out and spends every penny and gets herself in a mess is hilarious. This silly storyline should be enough to get you interested in watching the film in the first place and to be honest the story continues in such a way that you will continue to watch the film.

The only problem I have with the storyline is that it does get too silly at times and the scene with the dancing which you will notice when it comes up is just very strange. I think this is the only issue with the film but the story is fun and sassy and so light hearted that I could not take too much offense to it so I will let it off.

Character wise and this film is spot on. Isla Fisher is absolutely fantastic as the uber ditzy Rebecca and she really makes you laugh in this film. Rebecca is one of those characters that you can easily watch and feel for her as I am sure a lot of people could identify with the situation she has got herself in as I for one love a bit of shopping. Isla really gets into this role and I thought she was amazing and perfect for this type of person.

Hugh Dancy plays the dashing but arrogant Luke Brandon and he as well is perfect for this role. He is gorgeous and the character is one of these that you just want to come onto the screen for most scenes. Together with Isla they are 2 very good lead roles. Krysten Ritter plays Rebecca's best friend Suze and she is lovely and again a nice character to watch.

See this is the thing about this film everything is just nice. There is nothing nasty in there which makes for very easy viewing. Yes it has some silly things go on but if you had read the books then you would expect this anyway. The film does not really compare to the books as it has the same characters but the stories are not alike. Plus I got annoyed at the character in the book as she is simply stupid and arrogant and in the film she is not like this at all.

The film lasts for just under 2 hours and it goes by in a flash so that is good. I just spent most of the film laughing which is a good sign with a comedy such as this.

In conclusion I am going to give this film five stars as yes it is a bit silly at times but thoroughly enjoyable. The characters are fun to watch and the actors look like they had a great time playing these roles. I think the story is cleverly but predictably played out but when you are having this much fun who cares.

I liked it and would recommend for a night in or a rainy Sunday afternoon when you just need something silly and easy to watch.
