Advantages: Brilliant film, great cast and script, really engrossing, full of suspense and a few great twists
Disadvantages: May be a bit too gory for some
I suffer from Agoraphobia and am always scouring the internet looking for ways to help deal with it. I came across this film and noticed that one of the characters suffered from Agoraphobia. A friend also recommended this film to me and said that he had thought it was great.
I ended up renting it from Tesco dvd rentals and watched it last night with my boyfriend. I am a bit of a chicken when it comes to scary films so was a bit worried about watching it as it sounded really scary!
If you have never seen Copycat, it is an American psychological thriller film that came to our screens in 1996. The film has a brilliant cast including Sigourney Weaver, Holly Hunter, Dermot Mulroney (i love him!) and Harry Connick Jr.
It was directed by Jon Amiel and the total running time is 123 minutes altogether. I was expecting to have nightmares all night after watching this film as the first five minutes were even scary!
The story centres around character Helen Hudson who is a field expert in serial killers. The film starts with her giving a lecture on this at a university. When she is escorted to the bathroom, she is attacked by a psychopath and watches a policeman be killed in front of her.
Thirteen months later and she has become Agoraphobic and not left her apartment since her ordeal. Her attacker is in jail but then a copycat killer starts to kill a number of young women in weird ways. Is it the man who attacked her or another psychopath out there?
I wont give away anymore of the plot incase i ruin it for you but i thought this film was brilliant! It was really scary the whole way through, jumpy and filled with suspense.
Sigourney Weaver was brilliant as Helen and played the role excellent, she should have been given an oscar!
There were some gory bits which i hate as i have a really weak stomach. Some of the scenes were hard to watch as they showed pictures of dead and mutilated women which turned my stomach a bit. I sat looking through my fingers at all the gory bits lol
The plot was fantastic, the acting was excellent and there were a few very shocking twists which were great as i hate a film to be predictable!
You can buy the dvd of Copycat from Amazon at the moment for only £3.88 which is a great price. Well recommended!
Summary: Watch it
