Advantages: Tense thriller
Disadvantages: None
Copycat is an excellent psychological thriller with a few similarities to Silence of the Lambs in some ways, certainly it had me on the edge of m seat when I watched it and I found it to be a tense and nervy viewing experience.
Demot Mulroney stars as a youn police officer in San Francisco who is partnered up by an experienced inspector in the form of Holly Hunter playing the role of M J Monahan. They are hunting down a killer who is using for their inspiration the techniques used by historical serial killers. Sigourney Weaver also stars as Helen Hudson a talented psychiatrist and expert on tracking down serial killers, she refuses to leave her house after a near fatal encounter with now incarcerated murderer Daryll Cullum who is played by Harry Connick Junior. The three must join forces and try to influence Cullum to help them crack the case and stop the copycat killer.
There is a dark quality to this film and it builds the tension up nicely as the plot progresses. It is two hours of edge of your seat thrills and certainly is a bit of a rollercoaster of a viewng experience.
There are a number of strong performances in the film from each of the three lead performers and they work well together. It can be a bit grusome in places with images of mutilation so it is not for everyone but I found that the violence was necessary to help build the tension in the film.
Summary: Great thriller
