Coyote Ugly was released in 2000 with a run time of 101 minutes. It's a romantic comedy/ drama based on the actual Coyote Ugly bar in New York.

Violet Sanford (Piper Perabo) is an aspiring songwriter and leaves the small town she lives in and her dad (John Goodman) to move to New York to persue her dreams. Violet tries everything possible to get her demo tape heard but is very unsuccessful.

One night, Violet meets Mr O'Donnell (Adam Garcia) who she gives her demo to, thinking he's a club booker but really he's Kevin who works in the kitchen. She goes back to the bar to get her tape back and they end up being friends after he says he likes her songs. Kevin advises Violet that she needs to take part in open mic nights in order to get her music heard but Violet has major stage fright problems.

A struggling Violet is desperate for cash and 'auditions' for a job at Coyote Ugly, a bar where everything and anything seems to happen, after hearing in a diner that someone will be leaving. Violet is pretty quiet and shy and the job doesnt come naturally to her. One night at the bar, all hell breaks loose and Violet decides to get up on the bar and sing to try and calm everyone down. Violet only seems able to sing other peoples songs and must decide between her job and her dreams.

Im a huge fan of musical film and this is one of my favourites. The main thing i love is that it is based on a real place. I like anything that can actually happen. A Coyote Ugly bar recently opened where i love but its nothing like the bar in the film, its really just a normal crappy bar that stole the name.

Coyote Ugly had quite a few big names make appearances like Tyra Banks, The Calling and LiAnn Rimes. Tyra Banks played a great Coyote and I wish she'd had a bigger part in the film. For me, although Violet came out of her shell, I dont think she fit the part of a Coyote very well. She wasnt anything compared to the other girls, especially Rachel who always gave her a hard time.

The film also has a fantastic soundtrack with music from LiAnn Rimes, Blondie, Billy Idol and many more. Its very rare that i buy CDs anymoer but i own this one because i loved it so much.

Coyote Ugly is a feel good film with a slightly darker feel than most films in this genre. The story is paced really well and i didnt find myself bored with it at any point.
